About the Transcription Group
A regular group meets online on Tuesday evenings to collaborate on transcription. We have completed Rowland Hassall’s correspondence from 1797 to 1812 – approximately 300 pages. Despite having so many eyes look at the text, a majority of these pages still have words that are indecipherable.
We’d be very happy to hear from anyone else who would like to volunteer on this project.
The image of the letter on this page is from the Hassall Book. It shows a sample from the Hassall Correspondence collection at the Mitchell Library. This is a letter by Marianne (Hassall) Hope at Denbigh, Camden to her sister Kate in Victoria. Note how the writing goes in two directions to save paper.
